This workshop will focus on teachers developing strategies, techniques and proficiency to support students in acquiring and demonstration skills in: Citing strong and thorough textual evident to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text; moving beyond objective summary of a text; determining 2 or more themes or central ideas; analyzing how an author’s choices concerning choices concerning how to structure specific parts of a text contribute to its overall structure and meaning. Teachers will activities to assist students in determining the meaning of words and phrases; analyzing how an author’s choices concerning the structure of specific parts contribute to the overall structure and meaning. As well as helping students analyze interpretations of a story, drama or poem. Expanding student knowledge related to eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth-century foundational works of American literature and poetry.
